DR. DAVID ELIAS MD, CCFP-EM, CCFP-AM, CIME, AECOM, FCBOM

Dr. David Elias is President and CEO of Canadian Health Solutions. He is certified in Emergency Medicine and Addiction Medicine by the College of Family Physicians of Canada, is a Fellow of the Canadian Board of Occupational Medicine and is a Certified Independent Medical Examiner with the American Board of Independent Medical Examiners (ABIME).  

Dr. Elias is the President of the Canadian Board of Occupational Medicine. He lectures on the principles of occupational medicine and the development of health care management solutions as an Assistant Professor at Dalhousie University, and an Adjunct Professor at the University of New Brunswick. He has also developed and implemented nationally recognized assessment and medical management programs and conducts research to extend and improve the capabilities, outcomes, and professionalism of the practice of occupational medicine in Canada.  

Dr. Elias is a founding member and Director of Health & Life Science New Brunswick, founder and Chairman of the Canadian Imaging Research Centre, Inc., cofounder and President of Phoenix Recovery Centres Inc., and founder and Chairman of the Canadian Concussion Institute. He is a graduate of Dalhousie University, where he received his medical degree and an undergraduate degree in Pharmacy.   

 

DR. ANIL ADISESH MB ChB, MSc, MD, FRCP, FFOM, FFCI

Chief Medical Officer

Occupational Medicine

Dr. Anil Adisesh is the Chief Medical Officer of Canadian Health Solutions. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of London, and Glasgow, a Fellow of the Faculty of Occupational Medicine, and a Fellow of the Faculty of Clinical Informatics (UK). He is also an Honorary Fellow (elect) of the Faculty of Occupational Medicine, Ireland and was the 2021 Smiley lecturer. He is currently Chair of the World Health Organisation Global Working Group on Occupational Health for the Revision of the International Classification of Diseases (ICD 11) and co-edited the Diagnostic and exposure criteria for occupational diseases – Guidance notes for diagnosis and prevention of the diseases in the ILO List of Occupational Diseases.

Dr. Adisesh worked as Deputy Chief Medical Officer at the UK Health and Safety Executive national laboratory, Buxton. He was subsequently appointed the inaugural JD Irving Limited, Research Chair in Occupational Medicine at Dalhousie University, and was later Associate Professor and Division Director of Occupational Medicine in the Department of Medicine at the University of Toronto. He was also Head of the Division of Occupational Medicine at St. Michael’s Hospital Toronto. His clinical interests are in occupational toxicology, allergy, hand and arm vibration. He has wide clinical experience in chemical, healthcare, education, insurance, basic metal manufacture, engineering, electronics, construction, and commercial diving sectors amongst others.

Dr. Adisesh received his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degrees at the University of Liverpool, UK. He is UK trained in general medicine, with accreditation in family medicine and specialty accreditation in occupational medicine. He has been at the forefront of developing the field of Occupational Health Informatics and is active in the education of health professionals using new methods to engage learners in occupational health.

DR. MICHAEL BARRY, MD, FRCPC

Radiologist

Dr. Michael Barry is a graduate of Dalhousie Medical School, an Assistant Professor of Radiology at Dalhousie University, and a long-standing member and former President of the Canadian Association of Radiologists. Dr. Barry is the former Chief of Radiology at the Saint John Regional Hospital, the founding President of Atlantic Diagnostic Medical Services, and was also Co-Chair and founding committee member of Dalhousie Medicine New Brunswick.  He has served as the President of the NB Medical Society, the Saint John Chamber of Commerce and Vice Chair of the Economic Development Agency for Southern New Brunswick. He has also served on numerous boards and committees, both locally and nationally and is strong advocate for better patient care in Canada.  Dr. Barry serves on the Board of Canadian Health Solutions.

DR. ERIN BRIEN, MSc, MD, CCFP, ACBOM, CIME

Occupational Medicine, Family Medicine 

Dr. Brien is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Family Medicine at Dalhousie University, and a Certified Independent Medical Examiner with the American Board of Independent Medical Examiners (ABIME). She is also an associate of the Canadian Board of Occupational Medicine and has completed the Foundation Course in Occupational Medicine (Parts A&B), organized by the University of Alberta and Dalhousie University. She received her Master of Science in Human Biodynamics and her medical degree from McMaster University. 

DR. GEOFF COOK, MD, FRCSC, CIME

Plastic Surgeon 

Dr. Cook is Chief of plastic surgery at the Saint John Regional Hospital and an Assistant Professor in the Division of plastic surgery at Dalhousie University. He is past President of the Atlantic Society of Plastic Surgeons, and a Certified Independent Medical Examiner with the American Board of Independent Medical Examiners (ABIME).  Dr. Cook also has an orthopaedic and plastic surgical fellowship in hand and wrist surgery at the University of Western Ontario and has a national board certification (FRCSC) in Plastic Surgery.  He attended the University of New Brunswick (BSc) and Dalhousie University (Medicine) before completing a five-year plastic surgery residency at the University of Alberta, focusing on post-traumatic and post-degenerative reconstruction.

DR. NEIL MANSON, MD,FRCSC, CIME

Orthopaedic Surgeon

Dr. Manson is a Fellow of Orthopaedic Surgery with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and has completed advanced sub-specialty training in sports medicine at the University of Cincinnati and spine care at Rush University. He is an Assistant Professor of Surgery at Dalhousie University and Memorial University, and a Certified Independent Medical Examiner with the American Board of Independent Medical Examiners (ABIME). He has provided clinical care, research, and teaching in New Brunswick since 2006, and is active in athlete care, research, and advanced surgical techniques at regional, national, and international levels.

DR. JOE TRAINOR

Psychologist

Dr. Joe Trainor is a Clinical Psychologist, licensed by the College of Psychologists of New Brunswick, with specialty training in trauma therapy, as well as suicide assessment and intervention. He attended the University of Saskatchewan (PhD, Clinical Psychology) before completing a pre-doctoral internship at Annapolis Valley Health in Nova Scotia, and a post-doctoral residency at the Saint John Regional Hospital. 

DR. EDWARD S. YUZDA, MSc, MD, FRCPC, CIME

Psychiatrist

Dr. Edward Yuzda is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians for Psychiatry. He attended the University of Alberta (BSc, Psychology), McGill University (MSc, Dean’s Honour List) and the University of Calgary (Medicine), before completing residency training in psychiatry at both Dalhousie University and the University of Toronto. Dr. Yuzda is also a Certified Independent Medical Examiner with the American Board of Independent Medical Examiners (ABIME). Dr. Yuzda is an Assistant Professor in the Departments of Medicine at both Memorial and Dalhousie University. His clinical areas of expertise are the psychotherapeutic and somatic treatments (including transcranial magnetic stimulation) of mood and anxiety conditions.

DR. ARRON METCALFE

Senior Research Scientist

Dr. Metcalfe is Director of Research at Canadian Health Solutions where he oversees translational and applied research programs with a primary focus on occupational medicine and mental health. As Director of Research at the non-profit Canadian Imaging Research Centre he operates strategic research partnerships aimed at developing medical and health research ecosystem and infrastructure in the Atlantic provinces. Dr. Metcalfe learned imaging research and tier-1 discovery science as an NSERC Postdoctoral Fellow at the Stanford Laboratory for Cognitive and Systems Neuroscience in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Stanford School of Medicine. He received additional training in clinical cognitive neuroscience and grant writing as a postdoctoral fellow in the Hurvitz Brain Sciences Program at Sunnybrook Hospital, University of Toronto. He received his PhD in cognitive psychology at the Memory and Reasoning Lab in the Basic Behavioural Science Program in the Department of Psychology at the University of Saskatchewan. Dr. Metcalfe has published broadly on topics including special patient populations, cognitive neuroscience, cognitive performance, and clinical and community interventions. He enjoys mentoring academics to become applied industry scientists and is eager to integrate the opportunities of science and discovery more broadly into society through strategic partnerships with business.
